The Citizens Advice Bureau celebrates its 70th birthday this year. The independent charity, which offers free, impartial and confidential advice to all, sets off its celebration with a 15,000 ft sky dive at Langar Airfield, Nottingham on the 4th September. Jonathan Livesey will be making the jump, in tandem with one of the Red Devils, on behalf of Wakefield District Citizens Advice Bureau.
121 volunteers will take to the sky on behalf of Citizens Advice at Nottingham and Salisbury airfields. 30 of the 70 places at Nottingham are tandem jumps with the Red Devils; Wakefield District Citizens Advice Bureau was successful in securing one of these limited places.
The Citizens Advice Bureaux have extraordinary origins as an emergency war service; war was declared on the 3rd September 1939 and the first 200 bureaux opened the very next day. Wakefield Citizens Advice celebrates 70 years of delivering a free advice service being one of those first branches to open its doors in 1939. From the 4th September 2009 to the end of August 2010 the service will be celebrating 70 years of service.
Mandy Larder, Money Advice Unit Manager, of the Citizens Advice Bureau states 'this is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of this local charity but also to use the opportunity to fundraise to help Wakefield District Citizens Advice Bureau continue to deliver its service to residents of Wakefield with monies that we can raise, as a charity we are reliant on the goodwill of people`s donations however small'.
